A 30-year-old software professional from Telangana&rsquo;s Mahabubnagar, Mohammed Nizamuddin, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, earlier this month following an altercation with his roommate.
The incident occurred on September 3, but his family was informed only recently. Relatives said the dispute began over a petty issue, reportedly related to an air conditioner, and escalated into a violent clash involving knives.
According to the Santa Clara Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call about a stabbing. On arrival, they found Nizamuddin allegedly holding down his roommate with a knife. Despite warnings to surrender, he did not comply, leading police to open fire. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead. The roommate is under treatment for injuries.
Nizamuddin&rsquo;s father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, has appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for assistance in bringing his son&rsquo;s body back to India. The Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) has also urged the government to intervene.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney&rsquo;s Office and the police have launched a joint investigation, calling it an &ldquo;active and open case.&rdquo;
