The body of a 28-year-old tea garden worker was discovered in northeastern Bangladesh a day before scheduled voting, prompting a police investigation.
The deceased, identified as Ratan Shuvo Kar, worked at Champara Tea Garden in Islampur union under Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar district, roughly 190 km from Dhaka. Locals reportedly spotted the body inside the garden around mid-morning and alerted authorities.
Officers arriving at the scene found the victim with his hands and feet tied. Visible injury marks suggested he may have been assaulted. Some residents believe the killing could have taken place elsewhere, with the body later abandoned in the plantation.
Family members said Kar had been missing since the previous night, and they had been searching for him before receiving information about the discovery. Relatives identified the body at the site but said they were unaware of any reason that might have led to his death.
With elections approaching, speculation emerged among locals about a possible connection to the poll process. However, investigators have not found evidence supporting an election-related motive so far.
The body has been sent to a district hospital for post-mortem examination, and authorities have launched a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
