Taiwan reported fresh Chinese military activity around the island on Wednesday, detecting multiple aircraft and naval vessels operating in its vicinity, according to official statements.
The Ministry of National Defence said five sorties of Chinese aircraft, eight naval vessels and one official ship were detected around Taiwan as of 6 am local time. Of the five aircraft sorties, one crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan&rsquo;s northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). The ministry said it closely monitored the situation and responded accordingly.
The latest activity follows similar movements reported a day earlier. On Tuesday, Taiwan detected six sorties of Chinese aircraft and six naval vessels operating around the island by 6 am local time. Of these, two aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan&rsquo;s northern and southwestern ADIZ. Authorities said they tracked the situation and took appropriate measures in response.
The continued military movements come amid heightened international focus on security in the Taiwan Strait. In this context, a bipartisan committee of the US House of Representatives has released a new report titled &ldquo;Ten More for Taiwan&rdquo;, outlining urgent steps aimed at strengthening deterrence against potential Chinese aggression and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The report builds on an earlier framework that identified preventing military action against Taiwan as a core priority. It warns that developments driven by Beijing since the initial recommendations have significantly raised the risk of conflict, calling for immediate and comprehensive action.
Emphasising that preventing war remains the primary objective, the report states that effective deterrence will require the urgent use of all elements of national power, including military, economic, political and diplomatic tools. It also calls for deeper cooperation between the United States and Taiwan across defence, trade, technology and political engagement to reinforce stability in the Taiwan Strait.
