Sudan&rsquo;s government has firmly denied allegations by the United States that chemical weapons were used in Khartoum, insisting there is no proof of chemical or radiological contamination.
In a detailed report, the Federal Ministry of Health stated that field tests, medical assessments, and surveillance data revealed no signs of toxic substances. "There is no evidence of chemical or radiological contamination in Khartoum State," the ministry said. Forensic pathology teams also found no fatalities typically linked to chemical weapons.
The findings are based on tests conducted since April, when Sudanese Armed Forces regained control of the capital from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Measurements were conducted using equipment accredited by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Khartoum dismissed the US sanctions imposed in June over alleged chemical weapons use as "political blackmail" and a distortion of facts. Sudan cited the collapse of health services and the spread of diseases like cholera, malaria, and dengue as reasons for any health complaints among citizens.
The conflict between SAF and RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, aggravating one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The RSF is also under US sanctions, with the US State Department having declared its actions in Darfur as genocide.
Sudan&rsquo;s report comes as thousands of displaced families return to Khartoum, navigating poor infrastructure, widespread disease, and insecurity.
