In another Pulwama-like suicide bomb attack, a deadly explosion in Pakistan&rsquo;s north-western region of North Waziristan has killed sixteen soldiers and injured 29 others, including civilians and military personnel, according to local officials and police sources.&nbsp;
The incident occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a militant rammed a vehicle laden with explosives into a passing military convoy. &ldquo;A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy,&rdquo; said a district official who declined to be named due to media restrictions.
Initial reports estimated the death toll at 13, but it was later confirmed that 16 soldiers had been killed. The blast caused extensive structural damage in the area, with two residential roofs collapsing. &ldquo;The explosion also caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children,&rdquo; a police officer in the district reported.
The attack was claimed by the suicide unit of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a militant faction aligned with the Pakistani Taliban. The bombing occurred around midday, while a separate media report initially cited the deaths of eight soldiers in a strike on a military vehicle.
Violence in Pakistan&rsquo;s border regions has intensified since the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021. The Pakistani government has accused the Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan of harbouring militant groups that carry out attacks inside Pakistan, a claim repeatedly denied by Kabul.
Media data suggests that approximately 290 individuals, mostly security personnel, have been killed in armed violence this year across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, both of which continue to experience persistent insurgent activity.
