Shafi Burfat, the exiled chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has urged the international community to investigate what he alleges are Pakistan&rsquo;s secret nuclear operations being carried out in the mountainous regions of Sindh province.
In a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Ant&oacute;nio Guterres, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN Human Rights Office, and other international bodies, Burfat accused Pakistan of concealing uranium enrichment and nuclear storage activities underground in Sindh. He warned that such developments posed &ldquo;a serious threat to regional and global security.&rdquo;
Burfat called for an independent international inquiry and immediate safety measures, claiming that multiple verified reports and local testimonies indicate the construction of extensive subterranean tunnels and chamber systems across several parts of Sindh including areas north of Jamshoro near Noriabad, around Kambar-Shahdadkot, and west of Manchar Lake.
&ldquo;There are credible concerns about secret nuclear facilities being established under the supervision of Pakistan&rsquo;s military. These hidden operations endanger Sindh&rsquo;s environment, its people&rsquo;s health and livelihoods, and broader regional stability,&rdquo; Burfat said in his letter.
According to him, the alleged underground projects are accompanied by restricted access zones, heightened security presence, and growing secrecy surrounding certain mountainous sectors. Local observers, he claimed, have reported significant excavation and construction activities resembling nuclear-related infrastructure.
He warned that if radioactive materials or nuclear processes are being conducted in such unmonitored facilities, it could lead to catastrophic contamination, ecological damage, and violations of international nuclear-safety norms. &ldquo;Any unregulated handling or storage of nuclear materials in these secret sites could result in irreversible harm to the environment and people, not only in Sindh but across borders,&rdquo; he cautioned.
Burfat urged the UN and relevant international authorities to take &ldquo;immediate notice and launch an impartial verification mission&rdquo; to assess the alleged activities and ensure Pakistan&rsquo;s compliance with global non-proliferation and safety standards.
The JSMM leader concluded his appeal by calling the situation &ldquo;a looming humanitarian and ecological danger&rdquo; that requires swift global intervention before it escalates into an international crisis.
