President William Ruto has ordered the Ministries of Energy and Transportation to revoke the current agreements that the Adani Group has put forward to acquire the nation's aviation and energy infrastructure. The decision comes after USA federal court framed charges against Gautam Adani and seven others in bribery case.
The president stated in his State of the Nation Address on Thursday that the decision was supported by reliable data from the appropriate agencies.
He pointed out that with such overwhelming evidence, the current agreements with the Adani Group could not carry on.
Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Indian conglomerate Adani Group, was charged by the US government of bribing the Indian government 250 Million US$ to secure contracts for solar energy delivery.
"In the face of undisputed evidence or credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to take action..."
"Based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations - that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract, and immediately commence the process of onboarding alternative partners," explained Ruto.
