Scottsdale, AZ &ndash;&nbsp;A fatal ground collision at Scottsdale Municipal Airport on Monday afternoon has left one person dead and four others injured, including two in critical condition, officials confirmed. The crash involved a Learjet 35A, which veered off the runway upon landing and struck a parked Gulfstream G200 business jet.
Authorities say the Learjet, arriving from Austin, Texas, experienced a landing gear failure upon touchdown at approximately 2:45 p.m. The aircraft skidded off the runway, colliding with the Gulfstream, which was parked on private property. Emergency responders from the Scottsdale Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene to assess the situation and provide medical aid.
Scottsdale Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Dave Folio confirmed the fatality and injuries, noting that the crash site remains an active investigation scene. "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We are coordinating closely with federal authorities to determine the exact cause of this tragic incident," Folio stated.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a formal investigation into the crash. The NTSB will lead the probe and release further updates as more details emerge.
The Learjet 35A is reportedly owned by Vince Neil, lead singer of M&ouml;tley Cr&uuml;e, as indicated in filings with the Wyoming Secretary of State. However, it remains unclear whether Neil was aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Kellie Kuester, an aviation planning and outreach coordinator for Scottsdale Airport, reiterated that preliminary findings suggest the Learjet's left main landing gear failed during landing, resulting in the accident. Aviation Director Gary Mascaro extended condolences to the victims and their families, calling the incident a "devastating tragedy."
Scottsdale Municipal Airport, located approximately 22 miles northeast of Phoenix, remains operational, though the affected runway has been temporarily closed for the investigation.
