Moscow&rsquo;s Defence Ministry reported on Sunday that its air defence forces destroyed or intercepted 121 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 8 p.m. on August 9 and 6:10 a.m. on August 10.
An additional 34 drones were downed later on Sunday, including one over the Moscow region. Saratov Governor Roman Busargin confirmed that one person died after being struck by falling drone debris.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia simultaneously deployed around 100 combat and decoy drones overnight, of which Ukrainian defences shot down 70.
The latest escalation follows a similar large-scale strike on August 4 targeting the Volgograd region&rsquo;s transport and energy facilities. While no casualties were reported then, intercepted drone debris damaged a high-voltage power line, cutting electricity to Ilovlya and nearby areas. Crews restored power after emergency repairs.
In Frolovo, the same August 4 attack caused a fire at a technical building in Archeda railway station. Train services were suspended as explosive disposal teams neutralised an unexploded drone found on the tracks.
These drone strikes mark one of the most intense aerial confrontations between Russia and Ukraine in recent weeks, signalling a continuing escalation in unmanned warfare tactics.
