The Socialist Party leader, Olivier Faure, whose party holds significant sway in parliament, was quick to react, labelling the situation an unprecedented political crisis. He suggested that Macron's political group was "imploding" and that the new government lacked any legitimate mandate, statements made just before Lecornu officially stepped down.
