A suspected twin suicide bombing and armed assault ripped through the Frontier Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar on Monday, killing at least three people and injuring several as security forces launched a combing operation to secure the compound. Witnesses reported powerful explosions followed by heavy gunfire in the densely populated Saddar area, prompting an immediate lockdown of surrounding streets.
According to senior officials, the first bomber detonated at the main gate, while a second attacker breached the compound, triggering a fierce exchange of fire with paramilitary personnel inside. &ldquo;Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area as we suspect more attackers could be inside,&rdquo; a senior official said on condition of anonymity, describing the attack as a coordinated attempt to overrun the installation.
Local residents said the blasts shook nearby neighbourhoods, with the army, police and bomb disposal squads rushing to the scene. Initial accounts suggested two FC personnel were among the dead, while several others suffered injuries in the gunfire. Videos circulating online, yet to be independently verified, showed armed men shouting before the explosion and the aftermath of destruction inside the premises.
Authorities have launched a clearance operation and blocked major access routes leading to the cantonment zone. The attack comes amid a renewed surge in militant activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security installations have increasingly become targets of orchestrated suicide strikes and armed incursions.
