A tragic accident occurred in Peru, where the roof of a shopping mall&rsquo;s food court collapsed, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to at least 78 others. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
The incident took place at the Real Plaza Trujillo shopping mall in the city of Trujillo. The collapsed roof, made of iron, covered an area of approximately 700 to 800 square metres.
The accident happened when the heavy iron structure suddenly gave way, falling on people in the food court&mdash;a section of the mall that houses various restaurants and eateries.
Peru&rsquo;s Defense Minister, Walter Estudillo, expressed condolences and extended support to grieving families. He informed the media that five victims died at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries at the hospital. He added that out of the 78 injured, 30 have been discharged, while 48 remain hospitalized, including three in critical condition. 
Luis Roncal, chief of the local fire department, confirmed that rescue efforts are continuing. In response to safety concerns, Trujillo&rsquo;s Mayor, Mario Reyna, has ordered the closure of the shopping mall.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, raising concerns over structural safety and emergency preparedness in public spaces.
