Pakistan is reportedly seeking the involvement of Russia and China in an investigation into the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;
On April 22, terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 people, most of them tourists, marking the deadliest assault in the Valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the killings.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the incident on Sunday, vowed that the "perpetrators and conspirators" behind the Pahalgam attack would face the "harshest response".
Speaking to the Russian state-owned news agency, Pakistan&rsquo;s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated, "I think Russia or China or even Western countries can play a very, very positive role in this crisis and they can even set up an investigation team that should be assigned this job to investigate whether India or Modi is lying or he is telling the truth. Let an international team find out."
Asif further mentioned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also called for an international investigation.&nbsp;
He said, "Let's find out who is the culprit and the perpetrator of this incident in India, in Kashmir, talk or empty statements have no effect. There must be some evidence that Pakistan is involved or that these people were supported by Pakistan. These are just statements, empty statements and nothing more.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Meanwhile, independent US analyst Andrew Korybko, based in Moscow, observed that while Pakistan&rsquo;s denial of India&rsquo;s allegations was anticipated, senior officials had made two remarks that he described as self-discrediting.
"Ishaq Dar, who doubles as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, remarked that those who carried out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam district on April 22 might be freedom fighters," Korybko said.
Writing on his newsletter, he added, "Whatever one's views might be about the Kashmir conflict, it's an indisputable act of terrorism to massacre tourists, not to mention on the basis of their religion. Speculating that the perpetrators 'might be freedom fighters' discredits bonafide freedom fighters across the world and tacitly justifies terrorism."
Korybko also highlighted a second controversial remark, noting that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told a media outlet that the attack might have been a "false flag operation".
