<a title="Nepal" href="https://www.benefitnews24.com/international/nepal-pm-oli-quits-as-protests-escalate/19071" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nepal</a> plunged into chaos on Tuesday night as the Army formally took control of the country&rsquo;s security apparatusfollowing two days of violent protests that left at least 19 people dead and hundreds injured.
The Army confirmed that President Ram Chandra Poudel has not resigned, dismissing speculation triggered by political turmoil after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli stepped down earlier in the day.

The crisis was fuelled by Gen Z-led demonstrations against corruption, political misrule and the government&rsquo;s controversial social media ban. What began as street marches escalated into widespread arson, looting and attacks on state institutions. The Parliament, President&rsquo;s Office, Supreme Court, political party offices and homes of top leaders were set ablaze. In one of the most shocking incidents, the wife of a former prime minister was burnt alive when her residence was torched.
The Army, in its public appeal, urged the youth not to take the &ldquo;violent path&rdquo; and warned that security forces will act decisively if unrest continues. &ldquo;We also sincerely appeal to the entire nation for cooperation. The security situation will be reassessed,&rdquo; the statement read.

President Poudel issued a separate appeal for calm and dialogue, stressing that democracy can only survive through peaceful negotiation rather than destruction. His words came as protesters stormed key government buildings, demanding sweeping reforms and an end to entrenched corruption.
The Gen Z uprising has shaken Nepal&rsquo;s fragile democracy, already weakened by frequent changes of government and public mistrust in political leadership. With the Army now in control of security, the coming days will determine whether Nepal drifts deeper into instability or finds a path back to order through dialogue.
