External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York today on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session. 
Officials confirmed that the high-level dialogue is aimed at strengthening the recent revival in India-US relations after a period of strain.
The two leaders previously engaged in Washington in July and earlier in January, but this marks their first in-person meeting since ties soured due to trade tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. 
The US had levied tariffs of up to 50%, including an additional 25% duty, in response to India&rsquo;s purchase of Russian oil.
Since then, relations have taken a positive turn with the resumption of stalled trade negotiations. 
Trump has voiced optimism that both sides would face &ldquo;no difficulty&rdquo; in arriving at a deal. 
Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a separate delegation to advance talks toward finalising a comprehensive trade agreement.
The Jaishankar-Rubio talks also come amid concerns over the Trump administration&rsquo;s recent imposition of a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa applications. 
The move initially triggered alarm within the tech sector but was later clarified by the White House as a one-time fee applicable only to fresh petitions, exempting current visa holders.
The discussions are expected to span a wide agenda, including trade, visas, and steps to bolster strategic cooperation while addressing lingering issues in the partnership.
