"The cabinet and the government approved the framework for the return of our hostages," Netanyahu said, highlighting the imminent release of 33 hostages under the agreement. However, he made no mention of the potential phases that could lead to the release of the remaining 65 hostages or a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The agreement has received support from both outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and incoming President-elect Donald Trump. Netanyahu praised the cooperation, noting Trump&rsquo;s immediate involvement following his election victory. "President Trump joined the mission to free the hostages from the moment he was elected," he said.
In a pointed remark, Netanyahu reiterated Trump&rsquo;s characterization of the deal as a "temporary ceasefire." This stance is echoed by the Israeli leader, who affirmed that Israel, with U.S. assurances, would reenter Gaza with "very great power" if necessary.
The prime minister also credited the deal to Israel's resilience against external and internal pressures, ensuring its security priorities remain intact. Netanyahu and his wife Sara, who he says has been deeply engaged in the mission, continue to advocate for the safe return of every hostage.
