Israel&rsquo;s Security Cabinet has approved a plan to take over Gaza City, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu&rsquo;s office announced on Friday. The move, Netanyahu said, aims to remove Hamas, ensure Israel&rsquo;s security, and eventually transfer governance to Arab forces.
Speaking to Fox News, Netanyahu stressed, &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t want to keep it. We want a security perimeter and to hand it over to Arab forces that can govern it without threatening us, giving Gazans a better life.&rdquo;
Hamas condemned the statement, calling it a &ldquo;clear reversal&rdquo; of ongoing negotiations and accusing Israel of revealing its &ldquo;true motives.&rdquo;
Since Israel renewed its strikes on March 18, Gaza health officials report 9,752 Palestinian deaths and over 40,000 injuries, bringing the death toll since October 2023 to more than 61,000. Hospitals have been destroyed, worsening famine conditions under Israel&rsquo;s blockade.
Aid efforts continue, with the UAE, Jordan, Germany, Belgium, and France airdropping 107 packages this week. However, UN officials warn these measures are insufficient without opening crossings for large-scale aid and medical evacuations.
The IDF has announced daily &ldquo;tactical pauses&rdquo; in certain areas from 10 am to 8 pm to facilitate humanitarian assistance, including Deir al-Balah, al-Mawasi, and Gaza City.
