Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent Hindu community leader and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, was sent to jail on Novermber 26 after a Chittagong court rejected his bail plea.
He was arrested a day prior at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by the Detective Branch (of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. After being produced before Judge Kazi Shariful Islam amid tight security, he was handed over to the Chittagong Metropolitan Police by the Detective Branch.
&ldquo;He faces charges in a case filed in Chittagong on October 31. The transfer was confirmed on Tuesday morning by Rezaul Karim Mallik, additional police commissioner of DB,&rdquo;&nbsp;reported Dhaka Tribune. The arrest triggered widespread protests, with hundreds of Hindus taking to the streets in Chittagong, coming as it does amid allegations that the interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is inflicting atrocities on Bangladesh&rsquo;s Hindu community.
Meanwhile, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) quickly responded, calling for intervention. In a statement, the organization described the arrest as&nbsp;&ldquo;outrageous&rdquo; and urged the Indian government to speak with Bangladeshi authorities.
