The Iraqi government has issued a fierce condemnation of Israel&rsquo;s continued siege on Gaza, calling it a &ldquo;brutal and inhumane policy&rdquo; responsible for starving thousands of Palestinians.
In a statement on Wednesday, Iraqi spokesperson Basim al-Awadi decried the blockade as a &ldquo;systematic violation of human dignity,&rdquo; citing disturbing images of children waiting for food and civilians risking their lives near aid trucks, now turned into deadly zones under Israeli occupation.
Iraq urged the international community to act immediately, demanding that pressure be put on Israel to lift the blockade and allow humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
Since resuming military operations in March 2025, Israeli forces have killed over 8,300 Palestinians and injured more than 31,000, with the total death toll since October 2023 now surpassing 59,000, according to Gaza health officials.
The crisis has only deepened. Ten more people reportedly died of starvation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 111 since March. Aid organisations warn of an impending famine and the collapse of Gaza&rsquo;s already crippled healthcare system.
The full closure of Gaza since March has halted all humanitarian and commercial shipments, worsening the already catastrophic living conditions for over two million civilians.
