Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has called on the United Nations Security Council to officially recognize the United States and Israel as the initiators of recent military aggression against Iran.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ant&oacute;nio Guterres and UNSC President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Araghchi appealed to the Council to uphold its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
He accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilian areas, residential buildings, and critical infrastructure, describing these actions as serious violations of the UN Charter and international law. Araghchi further alleged that both Israel and the United States had attacked Iranian nuclear facilities&mdash;facilities that are monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)&mdash;in breach of global non-proliferation norms and treaties.
He urged the Security Council to hold those responsible accountable and to take action to prevent such incidents from recurring.
The escalation began on June 13 when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on multiple Iranian locations, including military and nuclear sites. The strikes reportedly led to the deaths of senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians. Iran responded with a barrage of missiles and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory.
On June 22, the United States carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. Iran retaliated by launching an attack on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
