Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has expressed gratitude to the BRICS alliance for its strong condemnation of the recent Israeli and US military strikes on Iranian territory. The remarks came during the ongoing 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi stated, &ldquo;Iran is grateful for BRICS&rsquo; strong and unequivocal condemnation of the recent military aggression. The attacks on civilian and safeguarded nuclear infrastructure are violations of international law and norms.&rdquo;
He further emphasized the growing global shift in power and praised BRICS as a platform shaping the "dawn of a new era," representing nearly half the world&rsquo;s population and 40% of global GDP.
The 'Rio de Janeiro Declaration', adopted during the summit's opening, condemned the military strikes against Iran since June 13, 2025, calling them violations of UN Charter and international law. Though the declaration did not name the US or Israel, it raised alarm over escalating regional tensions and attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards.
The declaration urged protection of civilian infrastructure, nuclear safety, and diplomatic approaches to resolving regional instability. It also called upon the UN Security Council to take up the matter.
Iran&rsquo;s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that Araghchi will be holding bilateral meetings with BRICS counterparts during the summit, where the focus is on &ldquo;Inclusive and Sustainable Global South.&rdquo;
