Iran has reopened its central and western airspace to allow international transit flights, the country&rsquo;s Roads and Urban Development Ministry announced on Saturday.
This decision came after security and safety reviews were completed and approved by the Civil Aviation Organisation (CAO) of Iran, according to ministry spokesperson Majid Akhavan.
Iran had earlier reopened its eastern airspace to both domestic and international flights, but airports and airspace in the northern, southern, and western regions remain closed to landings and departures for now.
The CAO stated that these parts of the airspace will stay shut until 14:00 local time (10:30 GMT) on Sunday.
Iran had closed its airspace on June 13 following Israeli airstrikes targeting Tehran and other areas, as part of Operation Rising Lion, launched by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The 12-day aerial conflict reportedly caused significant damage to Iran&rsquo;s key nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
A ceasefire was declared between Israel and Iran earlier this week, which has paved the way for the gradual restoration of air traffic. The reopening of Iran&rsquo;s eastern airspace earlier was the first step in returning to pre-conflict aviation levels.
