Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas met to discuss the latest developments regarding Tehran&rsquo;s nuclear program. The discussions follow France, Britain, and Germany&rsquo;s move to trigger the &ldquo;snapback&rdquo; mechanism aimed at reinstating international sanctions on Iran.
The meeting, held in Doha, also covered Iran&rsquo;s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Iran emphasised its continued commitment to diplomacy and expressed concerns over the E3&rsquo;s sanctions move, calling it unlawful and unjustified.
Both sides agreed to continue bilateral consultations in the coming weeks to address nuclear compliance and cooperation issues. Iran is also set to hold a new round of talks with the IAEA in Vienna to discuss the &ldquo;new form of cooperation,&rdquo; following the suspension of its collaboration earlier this year after Israeli-U.S. strikes and targeted assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists.
The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and world powers remains the framework for these discussions, though the U.S. withdrawal and reinstatement of sanctions in 2018 have complicated compliance. The &ldquo;snapback&rdquo; provision allows signatories to reimpose sanctions if Iran fails to meet its commitments under the agreement.
