India and the United States will return to the negotiating table on Tuesday to work out a crucial trade agreement, just weeks after President Donald Trump imposed a steep 50% tariff on Indian exports over New Delhi&rsquo;s purchase of Russian oil.
The talks, long delayed due to scheduling issues, will take place in New Delhi and mark an improvement in bilateral relations after weeks of sharp criticism from Washington. 
Observers say the shift follows a softening in President Trump&rsquo;s tone as he looks to stabilize ties with India.
According to media reports, U.S. Trade Representative for South Asia Brendan Lynch will lead the American delegation, while senior Commerce Ministry official Rajesh Agarwal will represent India.
Ahead of the talks, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro told CNBC that &ldquo;India is coming to the negotiating table,&rdquo; noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had issued a conciliatory and constructive message on social media, to which President Trump responded positively.
Last week, Trump said the two countries were &ldquo;continuing negotiations to address the trade barriers,&rdquo; expressing optimism about the outcome. 
&ldquo;I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the coming weeks. I&rsquo;m confident there will be no difficulty in reaching a successful conclusion for both our countries,&rdquo; he posted on Truth Social.
Prime Minister Modi echoed this sentiment on X, saying he was &ldquo;confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India&ndash;US partnership.&rdquo; 
Describing the two nations as &ldquo;close friends and natural partners,&rdquo; he stressed the importance of cooperation in moving forward.
