Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday reaffirmed the longstanding, &ldquo;special and non-partisan&rdquo; ties between Moscow and New Delhi, emphasizing that the relationship is firmly backed by citizens of both nations.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, Putin said, &ldquo;Russia and India have maintained special relations for decades, friendly and trusting. This is the foundation for future development, and these relations are absolutely non-partisan in nature, supported by the overwhelming majority of the peoples of our countries.&rdquo;
The leaders discussed comprehensive bilateral cooperation, including economic, financial, and energy sectors, expressing satisfaction over positive growth in trade and investment. Putin noted the symbolic value of meeting during the SCO Summit, which he described as a platform for unifying global South and East efforts to build equal and indivisible security across Eurasia.
Highlighting multi-level interactions, the Russian President noted expanding tourism exchange and close coordination in international forums such as the UN, BRICS, G20, and SCO. He also referenced the 15-year milestone since the adoption of the India-Russia Joint Statement, which established their &ldquo;special privileged strategic partnership.&rdquo;
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India&rsquo;s support for recent initiatives to address the Ukraine conflict and stressed the urgency of a durable peace settlement. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership, with Modi inviting Putin to India for the 23rd Annual Summit later this year.
