The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on Friday confirmed that it had eliminated a senior commander of the Palestinian militant group Mujahideen Brigades in a targeted operation in central Gaza.
According to the IDF, Ali Saadi Wasfi al-Agha, the group's military commander in southern Gaza, was poised to succeed Assad Abu Sharia &mdash; the Mujahideen leader killed earlier this month in a joint Israeli military and Shin Bet operation.
Al-Agha was allegedly behind several attacks on Israeli targets in both Gaza and Israel, and was involved in recruiting operatives for the group. The IDF also linked him to the burial of Israeli hostages Gadi Haggai and Judith Weinstein, whose bodies were recently recovered in Khan Younis.
Al-Agha was reportedly killed on Monday during a coordinated strike by the IDF and Israel&rsquo;s domestic intelligence agency, Shin Bet, while hiding in central Gaza.
In the past week alone, the IDF says it conducted over 300 airstrikes across Gaza, hitting militant operatives, weapons stockpiles, and strategic military infrastructure including sniper and anti-tank positions.
Meanwhile, tensions continued to simmer on Israel's northern front. Israeli drones struck a vehicle in Abbasiya, southwestern Lebanon, killing Hezbollah fighter Mohammad Khader Al-Husseini, according to Lebanese state media and a security source.
A second Hezbollah militant, Ahmad Ghazi Ali, was also killed in a separate drone strike in southeastern Lebanon's Houla region a day earlier.
The escalation comes despite a US- and France-brokered ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel signed on November 27, 2024, following over a year of border skirmishes ignited by the broader Israel-Hamas war.
