A massive anti-crime march led by Gen Z demonstrators in Mexico City descended into violence on Saturday, leaving more than 100 police officers and 20 civilians injured, according to authorities.
What began as a youth-driven call for accountability over rising crime, corruption and impunity quickly evolved into a large-scale protest drawing supporters across generations. 
The march, which brought thousands onto the capital&rsquo;s main avenues, saw long-time government critics and young activists unite in a show of dissent.
The unrest escalated as demonstrators moved toward the Z&oacute;calo, resulting in clashes with security forces. 
Pablo V&aacute;zquez Camacho, head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, said 100 police officers were injured, with 40 hospitalised.&nbsp;
Of these, 36 suffered contusions while four sustained trauma-related injuries. 
Local reports said 20 civilians were also hurt.
Authorities confirmed that 20 people were placed before a Public Prosecutor, while another 20 were detained for administrative offences and brought before a civic judge.
"We condemn the violent events that occurred during the march," V&aacute;zquez Camacho said, cautioning that some organised groups &ldquo;validate and support these acts from a distance&rdquo;.
Among the demonstrators were supporters of the recently slain Michoacan Mayor Carlos Manzo, identifiable by straw hats associated with his movement. 
Manzo was fatally shot on November 1 in Uruapan, allegedly by a 17-year-old who was later killed after being detained.
The protest adds to a growing wave of Gen Z-led movements globally, with young people taking prominent roles in dissent against inequality, political corruption and perceived democratic backsliding. 
In Mexico, frustration over violent crime and systemic impunity has fuelled widening youth-led mobilisation.
