Jessica Aber, the former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA), was found dead at her home on Saturday, officials confirmed. She was 43.
Police responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a residence on Beverley Drive around 9.18 am local time. Upon arrival, officers discovered Aber&rsquo;s body. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia. An investigation is underway.
Erik S Siebert, the current US Attorney for EDVA, expressed deep sorrow over her passing.
&ldquo;She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor&mdash;simply irreplaceable. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard for all of us. Though we are devastated, we will continue her life&rsquo;s work and commitment to justice,&rdquo; he said in a statement.
Who Was Jessica Aber?
Jessica Aber was nominated as the US Attorney for EDVA by President Joe Biden in August 2021. She had a distinguished career in the office, beginning in 2009 as an Assistant US Attorney, handling financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation cases.
From 2015 to 2016, she served as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice. She later became Deputy Chief of EDVA&rsquo;s Criminal Division, a role she held, until her appointment as the US Attorney.
She later quit her position as the US Attorney after President Donald Trump took office as the new chief from former President Joe Biden, after the 2024 Presidential election.&nbsp;
Aber, a proud Virginian, was widely respected for her legal expertise, leadership, and dedication to justice. Her sudden passing has left the legal community in mourning.
