Six people have been confirmed dead following a devastating fire that engulfed Glodok Plaza, a major shopping mall in West Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, January 15, 2025. The incident has also left fourteen individuals unaccounted for, as rescue efforts continue to be hampered by structural damage.

According to Brigadier General Prima Heru Yulihartono, head of the Police Hospital in East Jakarta, five bodies have been transferred to the facility's forensics department as of Friday morning, with one more pending transfer. The hospital has assembled a dedicated team for victim identification, working in collaboration with the Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) and the police forensics laboratory (Puslabfor).

The number of missing persons has increased from the initially reported eleven to fourteen. Those unaccounted for include: Ade Aryati (29), Sinta Amelia (20), Aldrinas (29), Aulia Belinda (28), Odima Yukari (25), Deri Saiki (25), Indira Seviana Bela (25), Keren Shalom J (21), Intan Mutiara (26), Desty and Zukhi Radja (42), Chika Adinda Yustin (26), Muljadi (56), and Dian Cahyadi (38). Authorities have yet to confirm if the recovered bodies correspond to any individuals on the missing persons list.

Commissioner Suparmin, chief of the Taman Sari Police's criminal investigation unit, has revised earlier reports about the fire's origin. The blaze actually started on the ninth floor, not the seventh as previously stated, in a former discotheque room that featured an exterior digital billboard. The fire subsequently spread downward to the eighth and seventh floors.

Rescue operations face significant challenges, according to Syarifudin, head of the West Jakarta Fire Brigade and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) operational unit. Teams are struggling to navigate through extensive damage caused by a collapsed roof on the ninth floor, while scattered steel and room partition materials further complicate their efforts to locate potential victims.
