Multiple explosions were reported across Venezuela&rsquo;s capital, Caracas, in the early hours of Saturday, triggering panic among residents as loud blasts echoed through several parts of the city. Witnesses said power was cut in southern areas near a key military base, intensifying concerns over security in the region.
According to reports, at least seven explosions were heard, accompanied by the sound of low-flying aircraft over the capital. Videos circulating on social media, though unverified, appear to show flashes and loud detonations across the city skyline. Residents in several neighbourhoods rushed out of their homes and gathered on the streets as the sounds spread across Caracas.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions between Venezuela and the United States. The Donald Trump-led US administration has taken a series of actions against President Nicolas Maduro&rsquo;s government, including the seizure of oil tankers and at least one reported airstrike on Venezuelan territory.
In recent months, the US military has also carried out multiple operations targeting boats accused of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean. Official data released by the US military indicates that these maritime strikes have resulted in more than 100 deaths across dozens of operations.
Trump has repeatedly indicated the possibility of land-based operations in Venezuela as part of broader efforts to increase pressure on the Maduro government, alongside expanding economic sanctions. Washington has accused Caracas of criminal links, allegations that the Venezuelan leadership has consistently denied.
President Maduro has rejected claims of wrongdoing, asserting that the United States is seeking to remove him from power to gain access to Venezuela&rsquo;s vast oil reserves and mineral wealth. As of now, neither the Venezuelan government nor the US Department of Defence has issued an official statement regarding the explosions in Caracas.
