The incident unfolded during Coldplay&rsquo;s live performance at Gillette Stadium in Boston on July 16, when the stadium&rsquo;s kiss cam focused on Byron and Kristin Cabot, then the company&rsquo;s Chief People Officer. The footage, which showed the two embracing, was picked up by fans, shared across social media platforms, and rapidly went viral setting off a chain of professional and personal consequences for both.
According to sources close to Byron, he is now exploring a lawsuit on the grounds of invasion of privacy and emotional distress, arguing that he was turned into a global meme without his consent. The controversy has led to Byron&rsquo;s resignation as CEO and Cabot&rsquo;s resignation shortly thereafter, after the company launched an internal investigation into the incident.
While the video drew widespread internet commentary&nbsp; with even Coldplay frontman Chris Martin quipping, &ldquo;Either they&rsquo;re having an affair&hellip; or married&rdquo;&nbsp; legal experts say any such case would face serious challenges. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s difficult to argue a breach of privacy in a public space like a stadium filled with cameras,&rdquo; said a senior entertainment attorney not affiliated with the case. &ldquo;Humor, even if unfortunate, doesn&rsquo;t automatically translate to defamation.&rdquo;
