Deadly Bombing of School Bus in Balochistan Claims Five Lives, Including Three Children

In a horrific attack early Wednesday morning, a bomb explosion targeting an Army Public School bus in Khuzdar, Balochistan, has left five people dead, including three schoolchildren, and several others injured.
I'm reporting from Khuzdar, where the scene near the district's Zero Point remains cordoned off by security forces. According to local authorities, the blast occurred as the school bus was collecting pupils during its morning route.
The Khuzdar deputy commissioner confirmed that the deceased and injured have been transported to a nearby hospital, with plans to transfer the most severely wounded to better-equipped medical facilities in Karachi and Quetta due to the serious nature of their injuries.
Military officials have described the attack as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). In their initial assessment, they suggested the bombing represents a deliberate targeting of innocent children after conventional military tactics had failed. They have attributed the attack to "proxies" seeking to spread terror and instability in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed "deep sorrow and grief" over the tragic loss of life, calling the bombing a "barbaric" attack against innocent children and "a heinous conspiracy" intended to destabilise the country.
The school primarily serves children of both military personnel and civilians in Balochistan, Pakistan's geographically largest but least populated province. The region, home to approximately 15 million people and significant mining operations, has experienced decades of unrest.
Authorities have warned that the death toll may rise given the severity of the explosion.
This attack brings back painful memories of the 2014 tragedy in Peshawar, where more than 130 children were killed when militants stormed a military school in the northern city. That attack was later claimed by the banned Taliban group, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
As the community grapples with today's violence, heightened security measures are being implemented across educational institutions throughout the province.
