A 37-year-old Cuban man, Yordanis Cobos Martinez, is facing deportation after being accused of brutally killing an Indian national in Dallas, Texas. Martinez, who was already under a federal order of removal, was taken into custody by local police on September 10 at a motel and charged with homicide. He is currently lodged in the Dallas County Jail.
The victim, identified as hotel manager Chandra Nagamallaiah, was reportedly murdered after a confrontation over a broken washing machine. When Nagamallaiah asked a colleague to translate his request instead of speaking directly to Martinez, the Cuban national allegedly became enraged. Armed with a machete, Martinez chased and beheaded Nagamallaiah in front of his wife and child. Witnesses say he then desecrated the body by kicking the victim&rsquo;s severed head.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Martinez has an extensive criminal history, including child sex abuse, carjacking, false imprisonment, and grand theft. He was previously detained at the Bluebonnet Detention Centre in Dallas but released under supervision in January this year after Cuba refused to accept his deportation.
Homeland Security officials have strongly criticised his release, stating that the murder could have been prevented. They labelled Martinez a &ldquo;vile criminal&rdquo; and emphasised that current policy changes will ensure such offenders are deported to third countries if their home nations refuse repatriation.
The case has sparked outrage both in the US and India, with concerns raised about the safety risks posed by repeat offenders who remain at large despite prior removal orders.
