A senior Russian military officer was killed in a car bombing in Moscow, heightening security concerns as the war in Ukraine continues alongside fragile diplomatic efforts.
Authorities confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who headed the army&rsquo;s operational training directorate under the Russian General Staff, died when an explosive device detonated in his vehicle. The blast occurred in Moscow and killed him at the scene.
Investigators said the explosion was caused by a car bomb and that several possible motives were being examined. Among the lines of inquiry is suspected involvement of Ukrainian special services, though no official conclusion has been announced.
The killing comes as officials in Russia signal progress in discussions around a US-backed initiative aimed at ending the prolonged conflict in Ukraine.
