Brazil has unveiled a $5.56 billion aid package to shield exporters from the impact of a 50% tariff imposed by the US. Announced under the &ldquo;Sovereign Brazil&rdquo; program, the plan offers affordable loans, tax breaks, and support for small businesses, especially those in perishable food sectors.
It also includes modernising the export guarantee system, reviving tax refund schemes, and facilitating public procurement from affected rural and agro-industrial producers.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva slammed Washington&rsquo;s move, calling the tariffs unjustified, and denied US allegations of human rights violations over the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Lula stressed Brazil would avoid reciprocal tariffs to prevent worsening ties, but reaffirmed the nation&rsquo;s sovereignty.
In July, Lula had warned against foreign interference and pledged to make US-based digital platforms comply with Brazilian laws and taxation, accusing them of fueling disinformation.
