Four Indian nationals were injured in a knife attack at a university in the Russian city of Ufa, the Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed on Saturday. The victims were among at least six people hurt during the violent incident at the State Medical University in Bashkortostan.
Reports indicate that a teenager entered the campus and began attacking students with a knife, triggering panic across the premises. While attempting to detain the suspect, two police officers were also stabbed. The attacker reportedly injured himself during the confrontation.
Health authorities stated that several victims are undergoing treatment, with one person said to be in critical condition.
The suspect, identified as a 15-year-old, has been admitted to a children&rsquo;s hospital and is believed to be in serious condition. Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the assault.
Preliminary reports suggest the accused may have had links to a banned neo-Nazi group known as NS/WP. During the attack, he allegedly shouted nationalist slogans referencing the Holocaust, and investigators are examining evidence found at the scene.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the safety of Indian students overseas. Government data presented in Parliament earlier this week showed multiple fatalities involving Indian students abroad between 2018 and 2025, including the highest number in Canada, followed by the United States and Australia.
