At least three people were killed, and another man was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Lake Cargelligo, a town in Australia&rsquo;s New South Wales, on Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to the New South Wales Police, the deceased include two women and one man. A fourth victim, a man, was rushed to the hospital and is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 4.40 pm after reports of a shooting on Walker Street, near Yelkin Street, in Lake Cargelligo. Officers from the Central West Police District reached the location shortly after and secured the area.
Police confirmed that a crime scene has been established and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities said the suspected offender had not been detained at the time of reporting.
Residents were urged to avoid the area and remain indoors as a precaution. Police also issued a geo-targeted SMS alert to people across the town, advising them to stay inside while the situation remained active.
Local MP Roy Butler stated that multiple shootings had been reported and urged residents to follow police instructions until further notice. He expressed condolences to the victims and their families, describing the incident as distressing and ongoing.
The shooting has heightened concerns over public safety, coming just weeks after a separate mass shooting incident in Australia that left the nation shaken. Further updates are expected as police continue their investigation.
