A single-engine aircraft crashed into a commercial building near California's Fullerton Municipal Airport on Thursday afternoon, killing two people and injuring 18 others.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) say that it appears that the plane attempted an emergency landing shortly after taking off from Fullerton Municipal Airport. A detailed enquiry is underway, they add.
The crash occurred around 2:09 pm PST (about 3.30 am IST on Friday), with the plane, identified as a Van's RV-10, striking furniture upholstery manufacturer Michael Nicholas Designs. More than 100 firefighters responded to the subsequent fire. Evacuation orders were issued for the building, affecting more than 100 occupants due to fire and potential structural risks.
Of the 18 injured, eight were treated by paramedics onsite and the remaining 10 were taken to nearby hospitals.&nbsp;
Emergency services, including the Fullerton Police and Fire Departments, quickly secured the site and set up a triage area to manage casualties. They also evacuated adjacent areas and cordoned off the site.
The crash, which occurred about 26 miles (42 km) southeast of Los Angeles and near Disneyland, disrupted local traffic and airport operations.&nbsp;
