Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underlined the pivotal role of industry-academia collaboration in steering India&rsquo;s technological progress while addressing global challenges and sustainable development. Speaking at IIT Kanpur&rsquo;s engagement programme &lsquo;Samanvay&rsquo;, he highlighted Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Sustainability as key focus areas that could transform the state and nation.
&ldquo;Cooperation between industry and academia today goes beyond research and innovation. It directly impacts the standard of living of citizens, addresses global challenges, and drives sustainable development,&rdquo; Yogi said. He also pointed out India&rsquo;s historic contribution to global GDP and stressed the need for continued economic resurgence, noting that India is now the fourth-largest economy and poised to climb further.
Highlighting UP&rsquo;s growth story, Yogi said, &ldquo;The state&rsquo;s GDP contribution was just 7-8% in 2017, but today UP is the country&rsquo;s second-largest economy, driven by investment, infrastructure, and governance.&rdquo; He cited Bundelkhand as a success story, where once drought-hit regions now have tap water in every household, irrigated fields, and increasing investment in defense corridor hubs.
On environmental initiatives, the CM noted that the Forest Research Institute had recognized an increase in UP&rsquo;s forest cover, reflecting the state&rsquo;s commitment to sustainability. On cybersecurity, he acknowledged the challenges, saying, &ldquo;In 2017, UP had only two inactive cyber police stations. Today, every district has one, 1,500 police stations have cyber desks, and a State Cyber and Forensic Institute has been established. Yet, much more remains to be done. We want to work closely with IIT Kanpur in this field.&rdquo;
He praised IIT Kanpur for six decades of contributions to emerging technologies, including drone innovation, and emphasized that the state&rsquo;s push for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has set a benchmark nationally.
