Gujarat Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma, also known as Panchal, is set to take charge as the new president of the BJP&rsquo;s state unit after submitting his nomination papers on Friday at the party headquarters in Gandhinagar. With no other contenders, his appointment will be formally declared on Saturday.
The BJP conducts organisational polls every three years from booth to national level. Gujarat has now completed its cycle, clearing the way for the election of the national president next week.
Vishwakarma, 52, has represented Nikol in Ahmedabad since 2012 and has held portfolios including Cooperation, MSME, Khadi, Civil Aviation, Forest, and Climate Change.
He succeeds C R Patil, who led the Gujarat BJP since 2020 and stayed on beyond his term to oversee key electoral work. Both Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the new state president are from Ahmedabad, while Vishwakarma&rsquo;s OBC background is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party&rsquo;s connect with this crucial voter base ahead of local body elections.
