<p data-start="81" data-end="338"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The Indian Army has denied allegations made by the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), which claimed its eastern headquarters in Myanmar was targeted by drone strikes in the early hours of Sunday.</span></p>
<p data-start="340" data-end="784"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to ULFA-I, 19 of its cadres were killed and another 19 injured in what it alleged were cross-border attacks carried out by the Indian Army. The group also claimed that senior commander Nayan Medhi was among those killed. Members of Manipuri insurgent groups, including the Revolutionary People&rsquo;s Front (RPF) the political wing of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) were reportedly also present at the camp and suffered casualties.</span></p>
<p data-start="786" data-end="961"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">However, the Indian Army has firmly denied any involvement. &ldquo;There are no inputs with the Indian Army on such an operation,&rdquo; said Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, PRO Defence, Guwahati.</span></p>
<p data-start="963" data-end="1181"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">ULFA-I, led by Paresh Barua, has recently suffered several setbacks. Only one senior leader, Arunodoy Dohotiya, is reportedly still in Myanmar. Another senior commander, Rupom Asom, was arrested by Assam Police in May.</span></p>
<p data-start="1183" data-end="1556"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Sources suggest that internal conflict among banned insurgent groups may be behind the attack rather than any external military action. Paresh Barua, who is said to maintain connections with Pakistan&rsquo;s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), is reportedly operating near the India-China-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh and is currently at a low point in his militant career.</span></p>
<p data-start="1558" data-end="1932" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Myanmar, governed by its military regime Tatmadaw, continues to witness violence involving various insurgent groups. The India-Myanmar border has long been exploited by outfits like ULFA-I for establishing bases. Indian security agencies remain on high alert, especially following a deadly encounter in May 2025 in Manipur's Chandel district, where 10 militants were killed.</span></p>
