A tragic road accident on the Delhi&ndash;Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan&rsquo;s Alwar district claimed two lives and left 31 passengers injured early Tuesday morning. The collision took place near the Pinan Interchange bridge when a bus travelling from Ahmedabad to Delhi rammed into a stationary truck around 6 a.m.
The impact was so strong that the front portion of the bus became completely lodged inside the truck. The bus had departed from Ahmedabad for Delhi at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. After receiving the alert, a team from the Rajgarh police station rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, began rescuing the trapped passengers.
According to locals, the moment of impact created loud explosion-like sounds which woke up nearby villagers who immediately came out to help. Passengers were pulled out one by one from the mangled vehicle as cries for help echoed across the expressway. Many were in shock as the front of the bus had been reduced to debris.
One passenger died on the spot, while another, identified as Roshan, succumbed to injuries during treatment. All 31 injured passengers were taken to the Pinan Community Health Centre, from where the critically wounded were referred to hospitals in Alwar and Jaipur.
Locals said that the shortage of ambulances made it difficult to transport the injured quickly. The accident also caused a major traffic jam on the expressway. Later, police used a crane to separate the bus from the truck and restore vehicle movement.
