In a major administrative reshuffle, the Tamil Nadu government has issued transfer and posting orders for 18 police officers, including several from the IPS cadre, while promoting three others. Among the prominent decisions is the reinstatement of DIG-rank officer D. Magesh Kumar, whose suspension over allegations of sexual harassment was recently revoked.
Magesh Kumar, who had been placed in the Vacancy Reserve (VR) at the state police headquarters following his suspension in February, has now been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Coastal Security Group in Chennai. He replaces R. Jayanthi, who has been posted as DIG, Technical Services, Chennai. Magesh Kumar was previously serving as Joint Commissioner of Police (North), Greater Chennai Police, when a woman traffic constable accused him of sexual and physical harassment. The complaint led to disciplinary action initiated by Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal, resulting in Kumar's suspension. However, his suspension was lifted in April 2025 after an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) reportedly cleared him of the allegations.
In other significant transfers, M.R. Sibi Chakravarthi, DIG and Joint Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Greater Chennai Police, has been posted as DIG and Chief Vigilance Officer of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited, Chennai. He will be succeeded in the South Zone by Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, who previously served in the same capacity in the West Zone.
Disha Mittal, earlier DIG, Villupuram Range, has been transferred and posted as DIG and Joint Commissioner of Police, West Zone, Greater Chennai Police, while E.S. Uma has been moved from Salem Range to Villupuram Range.
At the Superintendent of Police (SP) level, G. Nagajothi has been appointed SP-I, Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB), Chennai. Amanat Mann, previously in Vacancy Reserve, has been made Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Social Justice and Human Rights, Chennai. S.P. Lavanya will now serve as SP, State Crime Records Bureau, replacing Nagajothi.
Several Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have also been reassigned. B. Geetha moves from Salem City to Greater Chennai Police Headquarters, while V. Geetha is transferred to Salem City Headquarters from Tirunelveli. A. Velmurugan has been appointed DCP, Central Crime Branch, Tambaram Commissionerate, and K. Prabakar, who previously held that position, has been transferred as SP-III, Cyber Crime Wing, Chennai.
Among the officers who have received promotions, Kelkar Subhramanya Balachandra has been posted as DCP, South, Salem City. Kambham Samuel Praveen Gowtham and V. Prasannakumar have been promoted to the rank of SP and posted as DCPs in Tiruppur and Tirunelveli, respectively.
