Investigators probing the Red Fort blast have uncovered a highly covert communication system used by members of the terror module, allowing them to operate without leaving a digital footprint. The group, including Dr Umar Un Nabi, believed to have driven the explosive-laden car and associates Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Shahid, relied on unsent draft emails and encrypted apps to coordinate the conspiracy.
According to officials, the group shared a single email account accessible to all members. Instead of sending messages, they typed instructions and updates as drafts. The intended reader logged into the same account, viewed the draft, and deleted it instantly. Since no message was transmitted across networks, the exchange remained undetectable to conventional surveillance systems.
Investigators say this method reflects a high degree of planning and caution, giving the module the ability to communicate secretly while staying off intelligence grids.
Alongside draft emails, the suspects allegedly used secure platforms such as the Swiss-based app Threema. The application does not require a phone number or email for registration and assigns anonymous user IDs, making it difficult for law enforcement to track. Threema&rsquo;s end-to-end encryption, metadata-free environment, and message-deletion features further complicated the investigation.
Officials believe the group may have even created a private Threema server to exchange sensitive documents, layouts, and coded messages related to the blast plot. Early findings suggest the app played a crucial role in location sharing, task allocation, and coordination with foreign handlers.
The sophisticated communication strategy has prompted investigators to expand the cyber-forensic analysis as they piece together the conspiracy behind the Red Fort explosion.
