A resident of a remote village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district was left stunned after discovering a bank balance comprising 36 digits in his account, far surpassing the net worth of the world&rsquo;s richest man.
Ajit, the account holder, noticed the anomaly on April 25, a day after two routine debits of Rs 1,800 and Rs 1,400 had been processed from his account.&nbsp;
What appeared to be an ordinary day soon spiralled into confusion and anxiety when his passbook displayed a balance of Rs 1,00,13,56,00,00,01,39,54,21,00,23,56,00,00,01,39,542.
The figure, impossible for Ajit to comprehend, caused a wave of shock not just in his household but across his entire village. His wife initially expressed happiness at the discovery, but the sentiment quickly gave way to fear, with concerns rising over the potential threat of fraud.
Upon contacting the banking merchant, Ajit was informed that the enormous credit had resulted from a technical glitch, which was traced to a branch in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;
However, as the balance continued to reflect unchanged in his account, he decided to approach the local police.
Police officials advised Ajit to submit another application to the cybercrime division for further investigation. His account has since been frozen, leaving him worried about the possibility of having been defrauded.
The mistakenly credited amount dwarfs even the net worth of the world&rsquo;s wealthiest individual, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, whose assets are estimated by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index at Rs 2,84,17,69,27,10,400 &mdash; a 14-digit figure.
