Valley Anti-Terror Operations Yield Six Militants Killed in 48 Hours

Security forces have eliminated six militants in Kashmir Valley during two separate operations over the past 48 hours, senior officers announced at a joint press briefing on Friday.
The briefing, led by IGP (Kashmir) V.K. Birdi Kumar, GoC Victor Force Major General Dhananjay Joshi, and IG CRPF Mitesh Jain, detailed successful counter-terrorism efforts in Kelar, Shopian and Tral areas.
IGP Kumar explained that recent heightened militant activities prompted security forces to review and intensify operational strategies across the Valley.
"These two operations conducted in Kelar in Shopian and Tral areas resulted in the neutralisation of a total of six militants. We are committed to finish the terror ecosystem in Kashmir Valley," stated IGP Kumar.
Major General Joshi provided further details about the operations, noting significant challenges faced by joint forces. "On May 12, we received information about the possible presence of a militant group in the higher reaches of Kelar. On the morning of May 13, upon detecting movement, our parties challenged the militants, who retaliated with fire."
He explained that the second operation in Tral presented additional complications as militants positioned themselves in different village houses. "The challenge we faced was rescuing civilian villagers," he said, before forces neutralised three militants.
One of the eliminated militants, identified as Shahid Kuttay, was reportedly involved in two major attacks, including one on a German tourist, and had participated in terror funding activities.
These operations follow the Pahalgam terror attack where 26 civilians, including a local resident, were killed by LeT militants. In response to that attack, India launched "Operation Sindoor", conducting precision strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).
The operation reportedly destroyed key terrorist bases including Bhawalpur, the headquarters of Jaish, and Muridke, a Lashkar training facility, eliminating nearly 100 terror operatives.
While both countries have announced a ceasefire, the Indian government has maintained that the Indus Water Treaty and trade with Pakistan will remain suspended. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised that "water and blood cannot flow together" and future discussions can only focus on terrorism and PoK.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing soldiers yesterday, clarified that the ceasefire understanding remains valid only as long as Pakistan prevents terror activities against India from its territory.
