Former Union Health Secretary and 1983 batch IAS officer Preeti Sudan has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). She will take charge on August 1, replacing Manoj Soni, who resigned before the completion of his tenure.
Preeti Sudan is a member of UPSC since 2022. She joined the civil service in 1983 and is a retired IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. During his tenure as Union Health Secretary, which ended in July 2020, he oversaw the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' and 'Ayushman Bharat' programmes, as well as the formation of the National Medical Commission, Allied Health Professionals Commission and Prohibition.
Contributed significantly to various initiatives including drafting laws related to e-cigarettes. Preeti Sudan has worked in various ministries including Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Defense and held various departments in Andhra Pradesh like Finance, Planning, Disaster Management, Tourism and Agriculture.
He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank. As the new UPSC chairperson, Preeti Sudan will lead the commission in its mission to recruit and select the best candidates for various civil service posts in India. His vast experience and expertise will be invaluable in this role.

पूर्व केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य सचिव और 1983 बैच की आईएएस अधिकारी प्रीति सूदन को संघ लोक सेवा आयोग (यूपीएससी) का नया अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया है। वह 1 अगस्त को मनोज सोनी की जगह कार्यभार संभालेंगी, जिन्होंने अपना कार्यकाल पूरा होने से पहले इस्तीफा दे दिया था।
प्रीति सूदन 2022 से यूपीएससी की सदस्य हैं। वह 1983 में सिविल सेवा में शामिल हुईं और आंध्र प्रदेश कैडर की सेवानिवृत्त आईएएस अधिकारी हैं। केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य सचिव के रूप में अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान, जो जुलाई 2020 में समाप्त हुआ, उन्होंने 'बेटी बचाओ बेटी पढ़ाओ' और 'आयुष्मान भारत' कार्यक्रमों के साथ-साथ राष्ट्रीय चिकित्सा आयोग, संबद्ध स्वास्थ्य पेशेवर आयोग और निषेध के गठन की देखरेख की।

नई यूपीएससी अध्यक्ष के रूप में, प्रीति सूदन भारत में विभिन्न सिविल सेवा पदों के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ उम्मीदवारों की भर्ती और चयन करने के अपने मिशन में आयोग का नेतृत्व करेंगी। इस भूमिका में उनका विशाल अनुभव और विशेषज्ञता अमूल्य होगी।
