Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive public rally in Assam&rsquo;s Darrang on Sunday, launched a sharp offensive against the Congress party, accusing it of aligning with anti-national elements and giving indirect support to terrorists nurtured in Pakistan.
&ldquo;Instead of standing firmly with our soldiers, Congress has chosen to side with infiltrators and those who threaten India&rsquo;s unity,&rdquo; the Prime Minister alleged, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.
The visit was Modi&rsquo;s first to Assam since the completion of Operation Sindoor, which he described as a &ldquo;major success&rdquo; achieved with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya and Lord Krishna. &ldquo;Yesterday I came to Assam after Operation Sindoor. Today, being here feels like a divine connection,&rdquo; he told the gathering.
Linking his speech to Janmashtami festivities in the region, Modi recalled his Independence Day address, where he invoked Lord Krishna&rsquo;s Sudarshan Chakra as a guiding symbol for India&rsquo;s security roadmap. He reaffirmed his government&rsquo;s plan for the Sudarshan Chakra Mission a decade-long initiative aimed at developing a modern, Iron Dome-style defence shield indigenously. &ldquo;By 2035, this system will be expanded and strengthened to not only defend against terror strikes but also deliver a decisive response,&rdquo; he said.
Calling Assam the &ldquo;centre of identity and courage,&rdquo; the Prime Minister praised the resilience of the people of the Northeast and said he felt &ldquo;fortunate to seek the blessings of this sacred land.&rdquo;
Alongside his political message, Modi also rolled out a series of development projects in the state. These included the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a GNM School, a B.Sc. Nursing College, as well as infrastructure projects such as the Guwahati Ring Road and the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge across the Brahmaputra, aimed at improving mobility and accelerating economic growth.
The rally highlighted Modi&rsquo;s dual pitch combining political attacks on the opposition with an emphasis on national security and promises of development for Assam and the wider Northeast.
