Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in London on Wednesday for a two day official visit, expressing confidence that strong ties between&nbsp;India and UK will play a crucial role in global development.
&ldquo;This visit will strengthen our economic cooperation and generate new avenues for growth and employment. A robust India UK friendship is vital for a better future globally,&rdquo; PM Modi posted on X shortly after landing.
His visit comes at the invitation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and includes high-level discussions on expanding the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). Talks will focus on trade, technology, defence, education, healthcare, climate collaboration, and people-to-people ties.
As per the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides will assess progress made under the CSP and explore new areas of collaboration. The much anticipated&nbsp;India UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will feature prominently, with both leaders expected to push for its finalization. The FTA, in negotiation for three years, aims to eliminate tariffs on most Indian and British exports and could double bilateral trade by 2030.
PM Modi is also expected to raise national security concerns, particularly the issue of Khalistani extremism in the UK, which New Delhi has flagged in previous discussions. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated that this remains a point of concern and will be addressed during the talks.
A meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace is also on the agenda, marking another key engagement during the visit.
This is Modi&rsquo;s fourth official trip to the UK, underscoring the growing importance of India&rsquo;s ties with Britain. The visit follows his recent meetings with PM Starmer during the G20 Summit in Brazil and the G7 Summit in Italy, where the leaders laid the groundwork for deeper engagement.
With over $60 billion in current bilateral trade, India and the UK aim to unlock new potential in investment, innovation, and strategic collaboration. The visit is expected to reaffirm shared democratic values and mutual interests on global platforms.
