Pakistan has sharply rejected India&rsquo;s recent allegations on nuclear testing and clandestine activities, accusing New Delhi of twisting remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. At a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi insisted that Pakistan&rsquo;s nuclear record has remained unchanged since its last tests in 1998.
&ldquo;India is clearly distorting facts and misrepresenting the remarks of US President Trump. The US side has already clarified its position to the media regarding the statement by the President,&rdquo; Andrabi said, responding to Indian claims that Pakistan continues to pursue covert nuclear testing.
Andrabi stressed that Pakistan has been a consistent supporter of international efforts to ban nuclear tests, including resolutions at the UN General Assembly. &ldquo;Allegations of &lsquo;clandestine or illegal nuclear activities&rsquo; are baseless, malicious,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;India has alleged that Pakistan&rsquo;s nuclear programme relies on decades of smuggling and violations of export controls, a claim Islamabad vehemently denies, calling it a politically driven narrative aimed at maligning its security framework.
When pressed on a separate issue, the deadly explosion in Delhi earlier this week that killed 13 people, Andrabi remained evasive. Investigators in India have suggested possible links between a suspect in the blast and Pakistan-based terror groups, including Jaish-e-Mohammed. But the spokesperson brushed that off: &ldquo;We do not know who these people are.&rdquo;
The comments highlight ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, not just over terrorism, but also over longstanding suspicions surrounding each other&rsquo;s nuclear ambitions.
